On the 1st June 2007 European Union regulation No. EC1907/2006 came into effect. Known as REACH (Regulation, Evaluation and Authorisation of CHemicals), this legislation seeks to protect human health and the environment from the potential risks of chemical usage.

To comply with REACH, chemical producing organisations must determine any risks posed by the use of their products and provide directions for safe usage. This information, along with details of how their customers use the product, must be submitted to the European Chemical Agency for registration.

Within REACH, PennWhite is classed as a “downstream user” of chemicals; we use proprietary “substances”, which are REACH compliant, and blend them to produce PennWhite products. As a result we are not required to submit product data for registration. Additionally, many of our products are classed as polymers which are exempt from REACH.

We have been in contact with our suppliers and have been assured that all of the chemicals we use in the manufacture of PennWhite products have been pre-registered with the European Chemical Agency.  In the coming years we will continue to work closely with our suppliers and customers to ensure all relevant REACH criteria are met.
